Hi,
I am hoping someone will reconize the little snap in the attached photo and can tell me where I can buy some. It is a great little snap and works really well, especially on crank baits...if soneone can help I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

Funny that you should ask about snaps... 'cause I'm a "snapper" too! In fact, I recently posted a "Do You Snap, or Do You Tie" question in the TACKLE TIPS folder further down in this forum.
I regularly use a Palomar knot for my plastics and jigs, but like the ease-of-change that a snap provides for those lures that already have a bunch of "hardware" (spinnerbait/buzzbaits).
I've lost a couple of crankbaits when - I think - the line had gotten nicked by the split-ring on crankbaits. I also have trouble tying a Palomar and getting the "loop" over/past all the trebles (and don't want to learn/tie a different knot), so I use a snap on my crankbaits. A number of them recommend that you use a "loop-knot" for better action... well, I just use a snap.
I'm not lucky enough to fish for/catch fish so large that I need to worry about a snap failure, but with those that I HAVE caught (up to 9lbs.), I've never had a snap fail.
Your thoughts?

I've caught fish up to 6 pounds with just a plain old snap swivel. I love the convince and they hold up well. They also help a lot with line twist.

Thanks for your reply! Glad to find out that I'm not the ONLY ONE that uses them.
Personally, I use
only a snap for most applications (i.e. crankbait, spinnerbait, buzzbaits, etc.)... and then
only the Duolock or Crosslock variety.
The only time I use a swivel-snap (still Duolock/Crosslock type) is with lures that are designed to twist: spoons, Johnson Silver Minnows, inline spinners, etc.
Everything else - those things I consider as "stealthy"... things that the fish will get a good chance to look over - I tie direct: worms, jig/jig-n-pig, etc.
Good topic!! [

I completely agree. When I'm fishing a wacky or Texas rigged worm, I always tie directly to the hook. For spinner baits and buzzbaits, I like using a palomar knot. It takes me a little longer to rig up, but in the end its worth it. In my experience I've never lost a fish due to the swivel. They're made pretty tough.

I use swivel snaps on just about everything. The only hold out is bare hooks that I fish night crawlers on. I wouldn't bet on it but I think sometimes the added glimmer of the swivel may even act as an attractant to the lure or bait. I use snaps and swivels on all my trotline drop lines both ends. this makes the set easier and replacing hooks if I decide to go from a straight to a treble. To find your snap you are looking for, I would look up some places on line such as: Manns Bait co. Eagle Claw etc. Most of the places that manufacture hooks also make snaps and swivels. God Bless. I've always wondered if the shine/color of swivels was an attractant, repellent, or just didn't matter at all. I wanna say it actually does help in certain situations.
