Buddy of mine told me about a creek outside St. George that held some small cutts the other day, so with cabin fever setting in here in Vegas.. I decided to make it my first trip of the year. Arrived at 9 am weather was beautiful. Made my way down to the creek..no clear paths down into the gorge so had to do some rock scrambling. Ended up being some of the hardest fishing I have done in a while.. felt like guerilla warfare fishing.. spent half the time on my belly crawling through brush to get to where the fish were holding. It was clear that nobody maintains this stream.. lots of overgrown brush and no game paths to walk the creek = /. Started off with nymph which was ignored by quite a few fish so I switched to a dry. Now that was the ticket..Caught 11 fish total.. all pretty small 6-9 inches. Even caught myself on video catching the biggest fish of the day which was about 9-10 inches. Here are some pics of the trip. Enjoy..

That is very nice spot you have there. Nice report. Seems like a spot worth keeping a secret.

I took a little trip to that stream last fall, and it was a blast even though the fish are not that big. But the scenery is amazing. Also when I was finally able to hike back to my car I almost had to take a quick nap so I wouldn't fall asleep while driving. That was some of the hardest fishing I have ever done but the beautiful fish made it worth it. Glad to see you had a great time.

Little desert creeks like that are a nice change from traditional rivers and streams. A great option this time of year especially. The best part about all your pictures is that there is NO SNOW or ICE in any of them! [cool][cool][cool]

Good on ya.

there was snow up the mountain.. but down low where I was it had to be 65+ degrees. I wore a short sleeve shirt most of the trip and had to drink lots of water. I broke a decent sweat hehe

That is one brushy creek but a nice winter spot. I usually use a 7 ft 2 wt in there. Anything over 7 '6'' is real hard to fish in those tight quarters. I just got back from 3 days in the desert but didn't hit Leeds this trip. Just don't go too late in the spring the rattlesnakes are everywhere in there. Here's a pic from a month ago to show what a typical spot holding fish looks like.

As some of the guys have said its a great place where you're pretty much guaranteed to catch a lot of fish. If you're not a fly fishing purist, bass pro sells am ultralight 4' spinning rod that works great getting through the brush and into the little hidden spots where there are some good size fish. Attached a photo of one of the bigger ones the wife caught on our last trip.

That looks like the perfect spinning rod for Leed's. I've downsized to a 6 ft 1 wt fly rod when I fish it. Did you run across any rattlers?

Not this trip last weekend. Had the wife with me and she's not much into the hard work fishing so we just hit the pools along the road up the mountain which are nice if you don't have a whole lot of time or want to bring the wife or kids along. I haven't been up there in a couple years but I have run across rattler's on occasion in the past. I now carry a .22 mag revolver with snake shot up there after a really close call when I slid down a rock to find a rattler at the bottom under a bush and no way to retreat so just had to wait him out.

beautiful place, beautiful fish.

I'm glad somebody went to the effort of putting them in those creeks (leeds, browse, etc.)!
