Got the chance to see some old NATA buddies Saturday, (my boy Burger was in the house) as Hammer and I fished the NATA Open. I've been out of town most of the year and have only had the chance to prefish twice for this tournament. Both times Hammer and I had caught them pretty good, so we relied on that pattern for this tournament. We stayed in the general GP area, but our first stop noted above was covered with ice. So we punted and headed up creek to deep secluded stumps and rocks. We boated 3 keepers on Dixie Jig Works and Tight Line Jigs borderline deadsticking (water was 37 but we marked fish). Later the ice melted off our original spot and we boated 3 solid keepers on assorted jerkbaits. Things slowed down til after lunch and the wind picked up. We headed back to our stumps and I picked up our BF a 6.39 lber on a DJW Jig w/ a Paca Craw Trailer. We worked the next 2 hours trying to upgrade the 2.75 lber we had in the livewell, but came up short. Still a great day on the water. Temps ranged from 35.7-40.3 degrees. Water clarity was mixed depending on the area, but for us it didn't seem to matter. Congrats to the guys who caught them on traps, because I couldn't get one to fart on a trap. Also, congrats to the 1st and 2nd place bag. One heck of a day for the both of ya. Will post pics when I get them.
If any of y'all are looking for a great club in North Alabama, check out www.natabass.com . Great bunch of guys, and great sticks too. Work is too unpredictable for me to commit to a trail, or I'd be back in.
Good luck next week to those fishing the CFF Tournament.
