Just curious if anyone has fished Porcupine lately? I'm thinking about heading up that way in the morning. Usually I have been on the ice there half doz. times by now, this year I went the 1st weekend in Jan. and that was it. Hopefully a person can still get on the ice there.

I was up there on Saturday and Sunday, the ice on the edges was a little soft but nothing to worry about. It still has about 8 inches of ice. Saturday we did very well, and decided to go back on Sunday. Sunday was the complete opposite, we had 5 people fishing for about 5 hours with zero bites. I only saw one fish come thru on the fish finder on Sunday. So it seems we were in the right spot at the right time Saturday, and the fish didn't seem to be moving around on Sunday. Good Luck

Thanks for the info, I'm surprised there is only 8 inches of ice, that's not much more than there was in early Jan. Hopefully we can hit it on a good day tomorrow.

I guess there could have been more like 10 inches, I didn't actually measure the ice. I usually only measure the ice when I am scared and I was pretty comfortable so I did not bother. I hope I can get back up there soon myself, those fish are spectacular to eat, the best there is in my opinion.

I read a report here some place where a guy did very well on three species back in the back by the inlet pete, browns, rainbows and kokes, even some nicer kokes. Go to the back! go to the back!

Should have checked the site before we left this morning, we were on the ice and fishing at 0800 "Smokeonthewater" picked up 3 in short order and that was it. I had several bites and couldn't hook them. We left about noon. We tried several of my favorite areas near the dam. Easy access on and off the ice and not much snow on the ice. I found 14 to 16 inches of ice where ever we drilled holes. Clouds of fish from 80 feet down to the bottom 100ft. but they wouldn't hit anything. Not sure if they were small kokes or what. Doubt if I'll make it back up this winter.

Oh well, you got out and had fun. Tom is good company!

Damn Right I'm Good Company!

Some even refer to me as Comic Relief!

Hooked up with my biggest Koke ever from the Pig. Just a titch over the 12" mark. He put up a real nice fight on my new homebuilt ice rods. Nice action all around. If Jared can put his name on his Kokanee Rods so can I on my ice rods!

It has been hit and miss up there all year through the ice.

I was up there sat as well. Darn tough if you ask me. Hit it from about 8:30 til 12:30. Had biters move in under me 5 times. Here's how I fared on each respective school: 0,2,1,2,0. When they showed up, it wasn't for long - 1 minute max. I should have had probably about 3 more realisticly, but I was darn proud of the 5 I took home. Ran in to trophyboat. . . great guy. Nice job on the 10 btw.

good to meet you. i saw you over there reeling in a few.
we had probably 15 different schools come through and only one of them bit, they stayed for 10minutes or so then they were gone. it has been awfully tough up there this year.

[#000000] I think I'm going to wait to go to Porcupine after the ice is gone. I'd rather be in my boat up there.[/#000000]

Should be plenty of water to put the boat in this year, at least until they start dumping for irrigation.

Hey GB.. was thinking about trying the pig for the first time sometime this weekend. Was wondering if you would mind sharin some info on a decent area to drill. Would reallylike to bring home a couple kokes for my wife who's cravin em.. I understand its been a little tuff this year to catch em. Any help/info you mind sharin would be greatly appreciated... thanks in advance. [fishon]

Nothing really seems to be better than the next this year, but I like smack dab in the middle and about 10 feet down. I'm kinda guessing on the depth. I know I'm at the right depth when I can grab my line between my reel and first guide and pull it out to an arm's length, then point my rod tip as high in the sky as possible, and have my jig just barely come out of the water. If that makes sense. Electronics makes a big difference out there, but I don't have any.
