Heard several people mention dropping spoons or flashers onto the bottom a few times to raise a cloud of silt, which gets you more bites. Any theories why?
I can come up with some, but I want to see why those who do it, do it....

well i rekon it might be because it stirs up plankton, which attarct smaller fish, which in turn attracts larger fish i guess?

[fishin]I think a wounded bait fish swims erraticly, and when it does it will swim into the bottom do it little dance then swim up, loose its energy and sink. Then repeat the whole thing until it dies, either by a fish or what ever wounded it.
Imitating that death throw is what makes us successful fishermen.[cool]
Works real good with jigs, flys, spoons plugs ect.

my theories is 3 fold. one a fish dieing on the bottom is going to kick up some dust.. two a lot of times a small school of bait fish and a smaller bait fish will be digging on the bottom looking for food. or chasing crawdads.. the couud of mud tell the fish that something is there and it might be something they might want to eat. so they come take a look see.
3rd is a lot of time i have seen trout come in and try and slap a jig with there tails then turn through the dust cloud and hit the jig.. not sure if they are trying to stun it or just confuse it to make it easyer to catch.. but a lot of times it works bounceing the jig on the bottom.. or even draging it on the bottom..
here is a video i put on youtube of the tiger trout at huntington res.. watch how they come in on the jig after the dust cloud is made..
