After reading some fishing reports, my brother-in-law and I headed to Flaming Gorge to fish from pontoon boats. When we got near Manilla, we could see that Lucerne Bay was iced over so we stopped at the Forest Service office and asked the lady there if Sheep Creek had ice. She said there was some ice around the edges but it was open water so we headed there. Turns out the entire bay was iced over. We headed to the dam only to find that area iced except for a small portion near the marina down there and no boats were launching from there. Sooooooo, I would suggest that anyone take the reports with a grain or two of salt - even live ones from the feds.

Certainly you didn't think that a federal employee from the agency responsible for managing the lake knew anything at all about it, even when they can walk out the door and look at it?
Just think, the federal government want to take over the responsibility of our health care.

DID YOU GO LOOK AT ALL THE OPEN WATER THAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT IN SWIM BEACH AND ANTELOPE OR DID YOU JUST ASSUME. YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT ASSUMING[laugh][laugh][laugh]I would have read the post's a little closer............and for them idiots at the forest circuis they would have to get out of ther office long enuf to see what the lake is doing.........and that wont happen till may. suck's you got the hose man but all the reports i have read have only talked about open water in swim and antelope and you have to launch from the bank in swim....

Hey Ash,
Is there any open water fishing yet? I don't mean open water what I mean is: Is anyone catching fish in the open water at swim or antelope? I
my self with that question. Thanks for any information you can provide.
I'm not Ash, but I do know a couple of certain boats launching from the beach and not getting stuck in the mud are.[
] Better be really, really careful though.

Thanks Jim,
Now the important question. Are the boats that manage to get out into the open water catching fish?

Most likely. I can't see how they wouldn't be. The boats I've seen are guys who know their stuff big time. All I've done is seen them and waived though. They wouldn't be launching and fishing over and over again, all winter, if they weren't catching. But, it ain't their first winter rodeo either.

the guy's that are launching in the mud are catching fish. but with temp's climbing I wouldnt be launching there. but i have spent my share of time digging out of the mud enuf to wait till the marinia open's. shouldnt be long a little east wind and some more sun and it could be open sooner than later..... one of them boat's got a 49lber a few week's ago[shocked]one more week on the ice and this kid will be packing the ice gear away for the yr[cool]steelhead then san diego[
