Got out today on my kayak for the first time this year and fished some open water. It was nice to hit the "soft deck" and start off casting season. Used my flasher for the first time as well rigged on my PVC trolling pole holders. Worked great and caught a nice bass and 6 small Gills, all jigging. Fished here at my pond (Stansbury). Was a beautiful day and a nice close to the weekend.

thats a cool set up you have on your Yak there.... is it nice and stable in wind, how about when your hard casting (i mean really letting 'em rip), and when rowing?

I have only used it for one year and so far so good. I used it to troll with two poles last year and was very stable. My kayak is stable anyway due to the wider body. I have not taken it on a large body of water such as Strawberry but on smaller reservoirs, it does fantastic. It took a couple improvements to get it just right. I still have to build a battery holder for the flasher and a couple more rod holders. Ice fishing poles work well to jig from the kayak and see your jig on the flasher. Have not had an issue casting and I havethrown some fairly heavy carolina rigs pretty hard. I can post some more detailed pics of the setup if you want Kochanut.

your one daring guy it would take one little burst of wind and me and that spendy flasher would be upside down getting water logged. I get worried about my flasher when im on the hard deck let alone in a canoe in open water, you are one brave man. But hey awesome bass i can not wait to be setting the hook in one of them bad boys. I am going tomorrow out to some warm springs to play with them lrg mouths cant wait.

Bass,
I can solve that problem for you. I customized my sons kayak so that he can dance in the thing if he wants to.
Look on the kayak forum if you want to see a picture of the set up.

I can put up some pics of mine and it's set up also if you want. I have a simular set up for my depth sounder and rod holders with a milk crate in front of me for gear storage and a cooler behind for lunch and beverages.

I hear you on risking getting that flasher wet. I was a little worried and am thinking of still getting a cheap $100 eagle to use on the yak. For now ill risk it. I have never even been close to tipping over however. I was caught in some big wind gusts and some pretty good size wake with little to no fear of going over. My kayak is the only one I have ever used though and maybe others are a little more unstable depending on length and width.
