They just emerged from chapter 11 bankruptcy a few months ago. Their inventory keeps growing. I'd find it hard to believe.

I'm not sure which sportsmans you go to but i frequent the riverdale one often and the manager, Jeremy, and counterguy, Chris, are always helpful. I know they ar limited a lot on what they are able to get in but they always take time to chat with me.

For all that its been thru It is going good. The service has been great every time I was there. The employ there usually share the frustration of the lack of supply. They take suggestions for future orders. I have seen an improvement in the last few months at the one is Midvale, but they still are out of some items I want.....but improvement takes time...the service usually makes up for it.

Looking from the freeway in roy it looks like the anglers den has closed. Something else is in its place. Have they moved to another spot?

More old news.[] They moved a while ago to a strip mall at Riverdale and 1900W.(behind the Chinese Gourmet).
Sportsmans is still for the most part a bit more competitive with there prices. But I still like to go to the Anglers Den and try and suport the "little guy".[fishin]

The staff seem friendly enough at the Riverdale store but the thing I hate is that alot of them don't know much about the products they are selling and can't answer questions. I was looking for a GPS combo unit for my boat last year and the guy working that area didn't have a clue on what he was selling, I asked him if he had ever set one up on a boat and used it and he said no. I ended up buying mine at Cabela's, the guy there knew his stuff and made it easy to select a unit. Everything worked fine after I installed it. Maybe that was an isolated case, but in the past I have asked about other products in the Riverdale store and never received a good answer. The guys in the archery Dept. always seem to be on top of their game so I always feel comfortable with their expertise.

i go to the provo store and i am with packfan the archery dept. is usally on there game but fishing, calls, and just for and example i went to buy my wife some boots asked the kid whats the difference in the price why is this one 20bucks more? "oh it is just cuz they dont weigh as much" and to top it off they didnt have her size or know when the next shipment was comin in so i came home researched them on the net to find out that the cheap one only had a couple hundre grams of thinsulate and the other was rated for -20 BIG difference so i just went to reams and bought a pair of muck arctic sports! i love those boots

The sportsman's in Utah are not going anywhere. The corporation emerged from chapter 11. The two Utah stores can now be seperated from the rest of the corporation if they get in trouble again. These two stores have always done very well, so they will be fine.

Sorry, I forgot about the Provo and St George locations. The only info I have heard was that the Utah based stores would be seperated from the main corporation. That was part of their emergence from CH 11 negotiations.
Anyway the Utah based stores are safe/safer than the rest of the stores. The stores outside Utah got cash injected and are now backed by a firm out of California.

I've always had good luck finding what I need at the Provo store. In fact, my wife bought a shot gun for me for christmas. She originally bought it at Cabela's, but there was a 4 week wait time to get the gun in. The same exact gun was in stock at Sportsmans. So, we canceled the order with Cabela's and I brought the gun home that same day. I don't know why Cabela's had such a hard time getting that gun in.

They are paying their bills and their shelves are fuller than anyone else in the state. Midvale fishing and hunting guys are excellent. Hunting Manager in Midvale is a great resource and has helped me on numerous occasions. As long as he's there I'll shop there.

This was posted on the another board:
First off, yess I do work for Sportsmans.
The deal with UFA fell through about a year ago. They ended up with around 12 existing Sportsmans stores in the Pacific Northwest as collateral for loans the gave during the attempted purchase. They changed the name of those stores and they have nothing to do with us any longer. Sportsmans then went through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy and had to close about half our remaining stores. We successfully exited bankruptcy in the fall of last year with new ownership and a new CEO that thinks before acting. You should see some very significant improvements in product selection and availability this year. The company is still based in Midvale, UT and is not owned by UFA.
Hope that helps clear up some confusion.
