Hey everyone! I'm new to the board (well, I've been lurking for a few months) and this is my first post.
Just a couple of quick questions..
Any guesses as to when ice out will begin at Pali

es?
How about at Twin Lakes?
I'm from Pocatello and looking to go try my hand at fly fishing ice out this time. Any other lake suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks everyone!
Ice out on Twin will be coming soon with these temps, lower elevation, and the fact that it is very shallow compared to Pali

es.
Pali

es will take longer due to elevation and cold temps, but when it does start (on the Alpine end first) and if we have a good week with high winds, it will go fast. Pali

es also has a natural wind where the wind will come down the canyon in the morning and up canyon in the afternoon due to warming and cooling. This oscillating wind cycle pushes the ice one direction in the morning and the opposite in the afternoon which really breaks things up fast.
American Falls is another one that once it starts, will go very quickly. Large shallow reservoirs break up faster than narrow deep reservoirs due to the waves on shallow reservoirs being bigger and more destructive.
Watch for posts for specific dates (since things change year to year) as everyone is waiting on the same information after being cooped up all winter.
Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the info and the advice prvrt! I had even considered ice out on AF but it sounds like I probably should with it being so close [laugh]

I look forward to the updates, Steve! This is my first year trying to fish the waters in the south east corner of the state and I've heard lots of good things about Twin. I was going to try and swing over to Twin Lakes yesterday on my way to Logan but ended up taking the interstate most of the way so I am very appreciative of your photos! Looks like a fun time!

Pali

es is already starting its process. The salt is backing up by the lake and then snake is thawing by the alpine bridge. slush lines are forming.
