Fished Flaming Gorge today with Wiperslayer1. We first fished shallow and caught a couple of rainbows. We then moved deeper to see if we could find the macks. Started getting hits on the bottom in about 60 to 65' of water -- looked promising. I hooked the first fish and was a little surprised to reel in a 23" burbot. Ira landed three burbot of similar size and I lost a couple that were likely also burbot. Felt strange to be catching that many burbot near the middle of the day. Packed up and drove further north, nearer Buckboard. Went out where we have had success on pup macks before and gave it a try. Nothing fast there but we did manage to land four pup macks. The ice was about 18" thick everywhere we went with no problems getting on the ice and no problems with pressure ridges.

From the sounds of it, you guys should have gone north first[Wink]. Still a great report, any size to the bots or bows? Did you guys use the ATV?

Thanks for the encouraging report. Tryiong to plan a trip up there this coming week, but will probably head even further north, Firehole was our thoughts. We're not really looking for the monster Macks, but them pups and burbot are sure good eatin[sly] This will definitely be a meat trip. Thanks again for the heads up.

As indicated in my report the burbots were decent size, 22 and 23 inchers. Bows were nothing to get excited about.

i think there easer to catch in the middle of the day in the winter, but my wierdest catch was in the summer mid day trolling with a downrigger, so there not afraid to case your bait down niether.

My bad[blush], should have said macks and bows. Thats what happens when you read a post, then come back later and reply.

Typical map pups all between about 20 to 25 inches long (didn't measure any of them).
