Yesterday afternoon I made a call out that way to a person I thought for sure would know the conditions of this little reservoir, "the only ice left is in the middle" was the response.
I checked the forecast for temp. and wind speed. It was calling for 60 degrees with a 3mph wind. Man, this is perfect for a pontoon, I was really lit up and ready for this action.
Tanked up the truck, loaded the toon, motor, gear, food and charged a battery, headed out at 6:00 this morning. Dirt road to the reservoir was in almost perfect condition, no snow , no deep ruts and very little mud. No traffic and only a few cows in the road, what a nice day !!
Pulled up to the campground and only spotted two vehicles, with about 5 people on the ice. The ice is solid out there with absolutely no open water. The edges don't even look 'soft' yet. There is water on top of the ice and I could imagine a week or two of nice weather will open the place up.

Wow.. So grantsville is completely ice free and vernon you can ice fish on? That makes no sense but thank you for the heads up that does change my destination for Saturday..
