My son and I are planning to make a trip this weekend. Any suggestions on location or technique would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking of going up to Salmon or Challis but I have heard a lot about the Salmon river...

go to salmon and stick to what you know if you throw gear then do it if you fly fish with nymphs then nail that stick to the tail outs of soft water right after it is fast this is where fish rest. this is why dutch oven is producing so many fish.

Thanks. That is the plan...we are taking the spinning gear (and my baitcaster). I will be bottom bouncing black worms w/ chartuese tails, helgies and anything else I can think of. My son is going to fish under a float w/ egg sacks +/- jigs.

After a few trips bouncing the bottom I decided to try a float. That is all I use most of the time with a jig. There are a couple places that drift gear is better that I occasionally fish. I need to try some helgies.

dont forget a corkie if the water is clear or close to clear use a silver one. if the water is murky use a fire orange corkie and dont forget to apply a scent liberaly. i use smelly jelly shrimp/anise mix or roe and salt mix but anything smelly will work

We've got the corkies but didn't know about the scent. Thanks for all the advice. We are concerned about the snow but are still planning on heading out early this afternoon.
