A friend and I headed over to Mill Meadow this morning. We had to break through some minor snowdrifts across SR72 as we headed south of I-70. It turned out to be a very nice day on the ice. Ice fishing conditions are still good with only a little of a soft edge at the boat ramp late in the afternoon. We fished our normal area near the boat ramp and we were in 26 feet of water. The perch fishing was fast as usual with almost non-stop action all day from 0900 to 1600. We also caught 10 browns during the day. All of the fish were caught on small ice jigs tipped with perch meat about 8 inches below a small silver spoon used as an attractor. We were the only ones on the ice today and I didn't miss the crowd!
I would imagine the conditions will remain fishable for the time being pending any extended warm weather spell. I have included a couple of photos. The perch we kept for dinner were in the 8 to 9 inch range. The brown was about 19 inches. We didn't keep any of the trout.
