For all you overeager open water fans willard is breaking up fast! There is no longer a solid ice cap on it. Large patches of open water can be spotted everywhere from the freeway. Won't be long now. Bring on the cold weather LOL. I'm not done with ice fishing yet haha.

Wonder who the first idiot will be to take their boat out too early this year? Seems like every year someone puts themselves and their boats at risk trying to be "the first out" thinking they can work their way around the ice sheets only to find out they can't get back or are pinned between the ice and the dike.

There was already a first out. hehehe

Thanks for the site. Where in Wisconsin are you from? I used to live in Rhinelander. Go Pack!

Manitowoc. Worked a charter boat for many summers, and did some guiding in the local rivers.
Sure do miss the King Salmon run....

Yes; if I were retired I would be on Utah Lake in the morning. Can't wait till Saturday. Instead I will have to go to work in the morning wondering if I was the lucky draw for a 6 month vacation in Afghanistan via 30 days to Fort Dix. Just on more "heres for ya" from Uncle Sugar. I will have to do something after the military gig but hopefully not full time.

Hopefully you won't draw the short stick and can stick around here for your last year. Good luck on your trip to UL this weekend if you go. My boat is comming out of storage this weekend, getting her checked out at a dealer and then install my new toy on the bow and she should be ready for Willard next weekend.

Well today went by and I'm not selected yet. Hopefully tomorrow works the same. I too have to work on my boat. I was planning on one more hard pan day until I saw the post yesterday on UL. I'm fortunate to have my boat in my garage but will have to work tonight and tomorrow to get it ready. I built two runners for the trailer last fall and need to attach them and I desperately need tires. I will plan on a Willard trip also in a week as long as I'm still here. Maybe we will meet up. I have a 17' Bass tracker 25 year edition basically aluminum with some half torn off fancy stickers.

From Sun Prairie, we have a family cabin in Hazelhurst. Hope to get up there this summer to catch some eyes and pike.

Small world! Didn't they use to hold the state fair in Sun Prairie. It was a long time ago but I thought that was where we went to the fair. My Uncle lives in Madison. So where in Rhinelander is your favorite lake. My grandmother currently lives on Lake George but my grandfather and I used to fish the Wisconsin River out past Pine Lake. Lake George used to be great for nice crappies but with all the tourists and the muskies it has been difficult finding very many in the last 10 or 15 years. I did catch my first ever waldo on the Flambeau Flowage. My grandfather and I took a canoe trip for several days and I must of been 6 or 7 casting a big heavy wooden lure. More playing around than anything but hooked a waldo none-the-less.
The Northwoods are nice but I sure have fallen in love with this state. The mountain lakes, Willard Bay and now I want to try UL; plus with all the years of traveling in the military, I'm tired of moving about. I would be perfectly fine just limiting myself to a 300 or 400-mile range. Lake Powell is about as far as I need to go.

My family cottage is in interlochen woods. Most of the lakes we fish are right there. Bear lake, East Twin, West Twin and the willow flowage are pretty standard ones for us to fish. It's been a few years since I've been back there. You are right about this State. The mountains are beautiful, unfortunately the walleye and N. Pike fishing is not what it is back in WI but it's a more than fair trade off for what this state offers. You should also check out Flaming Gorge, it's beautiful. I'm going to try and figure out how to catch some lake trout this year. Kokanee as well. My boat is in my avatar. Make sure you say hello if you see me on the water.

I run a Crestliner, black over tan color with an American flag decal amid ship on either side. I have a picture of it under my profile's photo gallery. I bought a GPS color combo unit this winter to mount on my bow and attach the ducer to my electric motor. This will replace my old fish finder. I installed a Lowrance color combo unit on my dash last spring and absolutely love it. Now if the fish co-operate this spring we should have some fun.[fishin]
