Went near a warm spring on the big lake, open water and found a few LM movin around. Sunday, cloudy, and a slight rain. It took a very slow approach and patience to get the picky hit. Sorry bad phone pics.

The water is still low to mid 40's at UT lake so it makes for a challenge.

I need to figure out how to find some of those warm springs areas. Seems to be crucial for fishing for some species there for much of the year.

[cool][#0000ff]Don't expect a bunch of "regulars" to start giving you explicit directions...or GPS numbers. Very limited access and available space on most of the better warm spots. In fact, one of the better bassin venues is inside Saratoga Harbor...private and well patrolled. No non-member foot access but you can go inside by boat. Some days it looks like a bass boat show.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There are other warm springs nearby that also attract bass and all the other species. The flow and the depth vary from year to year but you can usually count on a lot of company from the happy harvesters. It is amazing how many fish leave the lake from those areas...including many bass that are bigger than the 12" maximum length. It is seldom patrolled by DWR and there are groups that keep everything they catch. No wonder there are not more big bass in the lake.[/#0000ff]

I would like to believe that most people that catch LM consistently practice catch and release, especially on UT lake. It's not like a consistent trout slayer. I know there are quite a few in the lake but not for how large it is. I have select areas for them yes, just like everyone else. You are lucky to get 1 on a trip with water temps up. I will boat into a few spots soon and try to find some.
