I was just curious if any one had been up to Daniels or Deep Creek and what are the ice conditions? Thanks

Was on Daniels 10 days ago. At the bottom of the ramp, on the return the ice had melted about 5' out with the exception of a small path in the center of ramp and that was going fast. Last couple of steps we were breaking through. I would say you would not be able to get on the ice.

With how warm it's been, I would think it would be a pretty bad idea to go out there.

Actually that's what I am hoping for; ice off! Thanks

ME TOO! I have some Chironomids itching to get ate!

Definitely. I've never gotten into ice fishing, but I can't wait to get out in my tube and hook into some of those big Kamloops up there.

I'm just curious what size you tie your chironomids? Also do you just use a dry line with an indicator? I have only really tube fished seriously for about a year and have only tried using a chironomid once.

I'm curious to know if there are any of good places on Daniels to shore fish for ice out? I'm planning on using micro leeches as well as some zebra and shop vac flies.

Yes, I use a floating line, but instead of a tapered leader, I attach 10 to 30 feet of straight 6 lb Fluorocarbon (or mono, I am just a firm believer that fluoro makes a difference).
I have these Slip-dicators. You can set them at whatever depth, then kick back. No way to cast a 30' leader. When fish hits, the indicator will slide. Check my blog for a video.

As for size, 14's and 12's occasionally a 16 and a 10

I'm finally going to try that this year. I keep saying I will, and then I fish leeches on sinking line like always. So is ice out a good time to fish chironomids?

I honestly don't know, but I start with it and if it is on...IT IS ON[cool]
