Took my "little" (Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Utah term) to Utah Lake yesterday in hopes of seeing him hooked up to something. Tried an area south of Pelican Pt., another north of same and several spots in the Mud Lake area. Was trying to find shallow, sheltered areas where the water may have warmed up some in hopes of finding some active fish. Found water in the upper 40's and a couple spots that hit 50.something. Managed several pop & drop hits but no hookups. At one spot in Mud Lake we anchored right next to a clump of that cursed phragmites weed & noticed the stalks waving around when there was no wind. Figured there were some carp moving around in there. Dunno what took place in there but this huge carp came shooting up out of the water & about startled a dump outta my little pard.

Beautiful day with just enough breeze to keep it from getting too hot (that's right, too hot) in the boat.

On the way back to the harbor we encountered a waterlogged tree stump about 6' long & 2' in diameter with maybe 6" showing above the water. I could just imagine some poor soul blazing back to the harbor after dark hitting the thing so we got a rope around it & drug it into the harbor behind us. I got a kick out of some of the comments I heard from the bank fishermen. I got it drug out of the water with my truck right at the edge of one of one of the ramps before the rope gave up. Tried to roll it off the edge out of the way. I can't believe how heavy that thing was. I couldn't budge it. Hope the park folks have something that can move it.

Tom,
Ok you hauled that tree right over to where I was gonna fish. You gotta quit trolling for trees and such. Too bad you didnt get into any fish but wont be long and the catfish will be calling your name. Give me a shout one weekend and we can go throw a line in the water somewhere
