I am going steelhead fishing this weekend. I was wondering if anybody has gone this week and if there were any reports?
If so, where are the fish holding?
What kind of stuff are you using to catch them?
Any help would be great as this will be only my second time going and I will be without pro steelhead fishermen!
Thanks!
Josh

Got back yesterday. Landed 2 from the Lemhi hole in about a 1 1/2 hour period, plus another just down from Carmen. The heaviest action we saw was from the bridge in town down to just past the Lemhi hole, although I'm sure there was good fishing elsewhere. I used primarily trout beads in natural roe color and my buddy was using a self made fly, which he later landed one on. Should be good from there all the way to Challis.

I have been hearing there are a lot of fish still down below the Middle Fork starting to head up stream. The water temp below the middle fork has been lower than the area above it so those fish have been hanging out. They are starting to move and there is barely any one down there to catch them. Friends father was down there last weekend with his boat below Corn Creek and had one of the best days fishing ever. He said he was the only one around all day. There is a whole mess of fish still waiting to head up river.

Last weekend I fished mostly at the Dutch Oven area ( below Shoup) and landed 11 and lost 5 after getting hooked up. My favorite holes around Shoup were dead so I headed downstream. In the first 2 hours of light there were about 20 caught for 12 people. Pretty standard gear of flys, black worms, beads and some yarn. I was using jigs and a bobber. Caught a wild 34" on a 1/32 oz jig and it almost straightened the hook. Wish I could go.

Were you at dutch oven on Sunday? I was there...caught my first steelhead there and got me hooked! What kind of jigs do you use? PM me if you want...
I'm just trying to get an idea of other stuff to use besides trout beads..

Corn Creek is at the end of the road. It's the last boat put-in past the Middle Fork and the Pack Bridge. The rest of the way is river to Riggins. There is a Guide/Lodge on the bend right before you go down the hill to Corn Creek.

Try a #10 flo. orange or red corkie on a #1 hook. Add some chartreuse or red yarn in the egg loop and soak it with shrimp oil. Leader should be at least 18" long.
Hope you knock 'em dead!! [

We went out Wednesday and caught five fish between two of us. We fished from about ten miles downstream of Challis, to about ten miles upstream (near Bayhorse). We caught them on beads, a scrambled egg fly, and a jig/float setup with an orange soft plastic worm. We saw two guys in a boat catch two on black with silver corky.
