Is it me or is there no season posted for salmon to challis? mabey its because i dont know any of the landmarks they are describing. the only one i see is the park hole but i dont think they are talking about the same park hole im thinking of. if anybody could make things a little more clear i would appreciate it. i called fish and game as soon as i read the seasons and a very snooty lady told whats posted is how it is then i got silence. heres the link to the season they have posted on there website.

You read it correctly. I did a lilltle digging in the IDFG news archives to see how they handled it last year. from what I could find. They announced a season similar to this years in march of 09. Later in the year, in May, they announced the season on the upper Salmon from the city of Salmon up through Challis. I'm guessing that is what they will do this year as well. With all of the predictions I have read I don't know why they wouldn't. It probably has something to do with how many the Native American tribes and others harvest before they make it this far. Just a guess on my part.

Have a good one.

Your correct no season thus far above riggins. The park hole is in downtown riggins. Typically the fisheries managers will asses the run as it materializes and determine later on if it will be feasable to open sport harvest on the upper salmon.

I think it was the end of May when they decided to open the upper Salmon last year and finally posted a decision. Don't worry to much yet. F&G just want to see what comes over the dams before the make plans so they do not have to change things and upset people.

we had talked about this some on a earlier post. i think they are expecting a great return to phersimoria but arnt expecting many to stanley. i had heard they didnt release many fry in stanley and someone said they had some disease in the fish they were raising and that most died. they said next years numbers returning to stanley arnt suppose to be good either. i guesse when the pit tags start coming over the damns they will know were the fish are heading and then they can go from there.

The good news is, there is 1 springer over Lower Granite as of yesterday. The bad news is the run may not meet the 200,000 fish that were initially projected for Idaho. It looks a little bleak in the Clearwater, according to the F&G season forecast.

Keep praying they come in droves...

Chrome, thought you might like to see this. They updated the info a little.

The 2010 Chinook salmon fishing season opens April 24 in the Clearwater, Snake, Little Salmon and the lower Salmon rivers.

Chinook salmon fishing also will open on May 23 in the Lochsa River; and June 19 in the lower Salmon River from Short's Creek upstream to Vinegar Creek. In addition, this year Fish and Game will open a section of the lower Salmon River from Rice Creek to Hammer Creek to salmon fishing, during the same time as the other sections of the lower Salmon.

Chinook salmon fisheries in the South Fork Salmon River and upper Salmon River will be set by the Fish and Game Commission at a later date.

In the Clearwater River drainage the daily limit is three Chinook, only one may be an adult 24 or more inches long, the possession limit is nine, only three may be adults.

In the Snake River from Dug Bar to Hells Canyon Dam, the lower Salmon and the Little Salmon rivers, the daily limit is four Chinook, only two may be adults. The possession limit is 12, only six adults.

The statewide annual limit is 20 adult Chinook.

Daily fishing hours will be presented in a table in the 2010 rule brochure.
