Launched Sturday night at about 8:00 or so. Used the island park gravel bar. The ramp is high and dry, but the docks are still out.
Water temp is 71 to 73.5 depending on which fishfinder you believe.
Fished Jigs and crawlers all night along the East shoreline. Caught about twenty small eyes. Started catching bigger fish after sun up.
3/8 oz jigs with at least some orange on them worked best.
Ended up catching over forty walleye, half a dozen Smallies, and one big Perch. Only eight eyes were keepers, biggest was 23 1/2 "
We usually lose the walleye when they depart the flats and don't really find them again until October or so.
Sure is nice to be out on the water when its cool and the play toys are sleeping.

I've only driven by Deer Creek a few times a long time ago so don't know much about it. How do you get to the island park gravel bar? Is it in the neighborhood of the ramp? Is it a state park, or any launch or entrance fees? Thanx muches![/#ff0000]

Great report Bob, I was just going to E mail you and see how you did, how did that new fish finder work? How much did that big eye weigh? I hope we do that good this coming Saturday, talk to you soon.

I think the area that Bob is talking about is a State park but it sounds like the ramp is out of the water, so he launched on the gravel bar that extends out from the ramp. Yes there is an entrance fee and the island is right by the launch but I do not think it is an island at this time. I'm sure someone can give you a better idea about it than me. WH2

The "island" is definitely not an island this year, or last year, and probably not next year either! It's a peninsula now. There is some fairly good smallmouth fishing along the rocks on the northwest side of the "island" right now too, although I'm sure Jordanelle might be much better. I still have to get up to Jordanelle and try my hand at the smallies up there. All I've ever caught at Jordanelle are trout and whitefish.

It's possible. It was like 5 years ago and I only caught 1. It was on an olive wooly bugger about 100 yards below where the river enters Jordanelle. I've never heard of a chub hitting a fly, but I guess that's more likely than a whitefish? Honestly that's a good question cause I don't know.

It's easy to tell the difference between a chub and whitefish. Whitefish have all the fins and look exactly like a trout with one exception their mouth. It's small and points forward unlike a chub which usually under their nose or points down. I guess it's just how you want to look at it.



White fish notice it has a adapose fin. The tail and fins are shaped different.

Hey WH2, the new finder works really well. I get a little screen clutter on both units now. Mostly when I run the new finder on the rear dual frequency transducer. When I run the new one on the trolling motor transducer my screen clutter isn't bad. It's really cool to see fish on the front finder and compare the screen display to my Garmin on the rear. It makes boat control alot more accurate when I can see depth changes under the front of the boat and adjust before the change shows up on the rear finder. Makes you realize just how steep the banks are.
Biggest eye was only about five pounds. I'll go to Sportsmans and stock up on jigs before the weekend. Hope we can get some bigger fish.

Hey neveronsunday, WH2 is right. It is a pay area. Deer Creek doesn't have any real convenient places to get on the water without paying. You have to pay,climb down a steep bank or walk a ways to get to the water.
Water has been dropping fast. So, the sooner you go, the closer the water is to the road.
Don't park on the beach at Island park. Ranger Travis has been putting tickets on trucks.

It was so long ago I don't remeber for sure, but I'm thinking it was probably a chub. Are they often caught on flies? If it was that's fine, I don't mind catching them once in awhile, especially because it was a new species for me! I'm all about catching new species. I've caught at least one of just about everything in Utah, although I do have a few more to go. Would love to catch a Northern Pike! BTW thanks for the pic comparison!
