Headed down there over mothers day with the wife and daughter, and was hoping for some pointers on shooting for a few Crappie, for my daughter or even bluegill over on Sandhollow.

shooting for crappie takes some skill there a small fish so i would bring your 22 cal. or even a pellet gun... good luck and tight triggers.

I've never gone after them but I've seen lots of bluegills on the dam of SH.

Quail has a lot of nice gills in it as well.

A couple of years ago, I went there with my dad and I always go the last week in april for the whole week. Bass were spawning and so were the crappie... They were on every bush in the water... we caught some nice 1 3/4 lb crappie... We were the only ones fishing for them.... We did good but only when they were spawning... The following year we went again on May 10th for the week and bass and crappie were over.... never found a crappie the whole week...... I would change your plans and spend mothers day the last week of april.... I think I am gonna be there again this year... 26 Apr.- 1 May

One thing to think about regarding the timing of your trip this year is that quail creek is about 95 % full and filling with COLD snow runoff from two drainages. The water temperature will be a little bit slower this year to come up around spawning temp, thats my prediction anyway. Likewise for sand hollow.
One other tip, the years it fills up the fishing in late april and may is fantastic (vs. low water years). This will be a good big fish year at both quail and sand hollow. Just my predictions based on fishing at quail creek for 16 years.

Thanks for the info guys. This week is for me to get a little bass fishing in but to introduce my wife and daughter as well. So i may spend some time on the gill and Crappie hunt not just the bucket mouths.
