I drove up to the blacktail side, or at least as far as the gait, which is still closed. What little I could see of the Reservoir from there was still frozen. No idea on the Juniper side.

I keep a little book with ice off dates and according to my book, the ice should be off Ririe now. There may still be a chunk here or there, but I am betting it is fishable.

We ice fished Ririe a few years back (can't remember when exactly) on Easter weekend. Fishing was good but the ice was getting very soft.

Went for a little ride on Monday to check out the ice. It is starting to brake up a little. See photo's for Ririe 4/5/2010

Made it up today. Found some people taking their boat out. The ice was about 50 yds past the end of the boat dock. They reported that they had to wait for it to clear out this morning though. They also reported an ice jam around the powerlines up res. a way. Should be clear in another couple days at this rate.

Thanks for the report. Now only about a month or so until the water temps get high enough to activate the smallmouth. I have no idea why I enjoy fishing for those smallmouth so much.

i love catching them also but i dont fish for them as much as i would like fly fishing for trout on the henry's and the southfork take up most of my time. but the smallies sure are a kick in the pants to catch with a 3 inch twister tail grub rigged carolina style!

I have a spot I plan to target them on a fly rod this year. Should be fun[

I have caught them in the past on leeches and poppers. The poppers work best when the water warms up. You have to be their very early and throw into the rocks then pop away from the bank. This only works until the sun comes over the canyon wall.

That's what I was planning to do, except it won't be at Ririe. I just seem to have trouble getting in gear to get up there before sunup most mornings in the summer months.

I wish more fishermen were like you! My idea of fishing is being on the water an hour before it's light and loading the boat by 6:30 to 7:00 am to go home. If I can get off with limits before most people launch I'm a happy camper. ![[Image: happy.gif]](http://www.bigfishtackle.com/images/gforum/happy.gif)

I'm generally on the water 5 days a week. If I'm lucky I only see two vehicles in the lot when I leave.
I like to be at the office by 8 or so. Not many early risers fishing Ririe. ![[Image: sleeping.gif]](http://www.bigfishtackle.com/images/gforum/sleeping.gif)

Went up to the blacktail side today. The gate is open, they are putting in new pit toilets. no docks in yet, but a boat was launching as I left. I ran into a group that left shortly after I arrived that claimed to have caught about 7 fish over the afternoon. Shore line water was muddy. Ice was still present about 100 yds left of the ramp and out probly 150-200 yds. Looked like more ice was present down reservoir before it went out of site.
