I do not have a boat and can't use my float tube at present due to back problems. I moved to Vegas last year from southern CA and have yet to fish - just got my license today.
Crappie are my favorite freshwater fish to pursue but I understand that they are hard to come by in Mead (read BigPecker's earlier post inquiring about crappie fishing).
Would anyone be able to provide me with a good area to shore fish for anything? I live in the northwest part of the city (95 and Durango) so Overton looks close as per the maps I've looked at.
Thanks in advance for any guidance/tips/advice. I look forward to posting often.
Steve
Saw this on the RJ http://www.lvrj.com/sports/by-any-name--crappie-are-fish-for-all-anglers-89670712.html
The striper are acting weird this year. Bait is being picked at and hardware just gets rinsed off with every cast.

Welcome! I actually live in the same part of town! And anywhere near Lake Mead is a haul for us in the northwest part of town...almost doesn't matter where it is.
I have not myself fished for them, but I have heard the crappie fishing is good in the Overton arm of the lake, especially Echo Bay and Stewart's Point. Winter seems like the best time, but I'm sure you can find them all year.
You can shore fish from just about anywhere for whatever you're looking for, stripers, LMB, carp, cats. Just depends on how far you are willing to hike sometimes. For stripers, start with Boulder Harbor, Boulder Beach, Hemenway Harbor, and Hole 33. Cats are decent at Hole 33 also.
I mostly fish for carp, so I know a few good areas for them as well. As a general rule, if you stick nearby any of the marinas (can't fish inside the marinas so stay outside the tires) you'll knock out a few carp. And they'll give you a good fight, even the smaller ones. In fact, I've wanted to get up around Echo Bay to see what the carping is like up there...it's on the list of stuff to do...
If you need anything else, let me know! Hey, PM me, I have a question for you.

iamthesmf,
I read that article this morning and it is what got my attention to browse the web for crappie fishing locally. I'll probably check it out Sunday or Monday. I'll pick a spot that looks "fishy" early in the morning and see if mini jigs, grubs or small crankbaits find any papermouths.
tom,
PM sent
Thanks,
Steve
