Well the salmon are headed this way in some numbers finally. I am in Portland alot for work and i have been giving the springers a try as they head this way up the columbia. It has been pretty slow in my opinion if they are expecting 470,000 over Bonneville. But finally last week the fishing got hot and it seemed like everybody was getting in to some. Got this seventeen pounder in the middle of a nasty spring storm but it was worth it. Hopefully they will get up this way soon.

I have been watching this also. According to the count at the dams so far, things are looking great. Here is what they show that has come over the dam all ready.

[#000000]Dam...Date of Count...Daily Count...Total-2010...Total-2009...Average Last 5 Years
Bonneville April 1............... 166 ...............648............ 106................. 174

[/#000000]Adult Chinook counts since March 1, 2010.
Counts include both hatchery and wild origin adults. Jacks are not included in the count.

I can't wait for Salmon fishing. I had a blast last year.

In 2001 there were 42,099 on this date, and in 2002 there were 6289 on this date, in 2003 there were 30,000+. This year is shaping up to be another 150,000 fish year, on line with 2004 numbers. It is not bad, but it is not going to break any records.

I just wish the ODFW and WDFW would shut down netting till the upriver component passed Bonneville. It would sure be nice if Idaho had a fair say in how our fihs are "managed" while in transit. Never going to happen but we can hope...

Actually the nets have only been in the water one time so far. They did not allow them to net the fist two scheduled dates because of low numbers of chinook and high numbers of steelhead in the test nets. They did net last tuesday and will net again tomorrow and the following Tuesday and thats it. The fishing however is getting really good in the columbia with limits for alot of boats. This morning my buddy limited in an hour. I think there is still a chance for some big numbers. Just wait for the numbers at the damn to get crazy around the 3rd week of the month.

I said this a week ago, and I'll say it again. I check the Bonneville fish cam every day several times, and I haven't seen a living thing yet this spring. Where are they?

I agree that this run is not dead, but in order for it to hit the 450,000 that were predicted (and the wild fish impacts were set on...) we would need a lot of 20,000 fish over Boneville days in a hurry. I just hope we get the numbers to justify the liberal allocations to both sporties and netters in the LCR. I would be really happy if we got to fish the full seasons in Idaho this year.

Full seasons? What's that?
