It's just fly fishing right?

I am looking forward to this. Is there anything I need special. I have a one man pontoon, I am guessing that is OK. Will we be floating as a group more or less?

Thanks for this post . I was planning on fishing with you guys . I didn't realize it was fly fishing only . I don't fly fish. Seams like if you were really doing this to reduce the number of Rainbows it would be open to everyone . Is it drift boat only also . So my Jet Boat would not be welcome either . Thanks Curt G.

i agree with you about the fly fishing thats how it was last year and the rules dont state it very clearly this year but you can still come out and fish curt nothing can stop you from doing that

It is put on by a branch of Trout Unlimited, which usually deals with just fly fishing. So....... thats why its a fly fishing derby. If it was put on for the purpose of making a dent in the population it would be for ALL types of fishing.

was planning on going but my wife's family is getting together in Ashton for a mini reunion that day. [frown] Guess I'll have to make due w/ targeting the Henry's Fork instead. Maybe next time.

I am thinking that I may have to do this. I have always wanted to float the river in that area. Guess I will see how things go today.

I think I would go anyway even if you don't fly fish. You can call the fly shop up there, but I am willing to bet that they would be glad to have you come. It is about catching the rainbows.

I am not a member of that club, but I am of the one in Pocatello. We have other than flyfishers come all of the time. Especially to meetings that host speakers about the area. Simply put--- it is about fishing and helping to promote that and preserve our resources however you want to accomplish that.

I know that there are some obnoxious fly flingers that insist that it is the only way EVERYONE MUST fish, but they are a small (and small minded) minority.

i opened up my fly box today and relized how low my fly count was in it so i just finished tying up a bunch of flys i have been tying off and on since 2:00 pm today went to work for a few hours then came home and tied a few more im sure i have enough for tomorrow. darren it would be awesome to see you up there it is my personal favorite place and stretch of river to fly fish. ill be in a yellow colorado pontoon boat with a BigFishTackle.com sticker on the back of the seat.

My plans were changed again. I was suppose to go watch the daughter race Sat, So I planned on not going to the derby. Then she hurt her back and said she was not going to race, so I thought I would be able to hit the SF for the Derby. Now she changed her mind again and says her back is fine, so I guess it is off to the races. Maybe next year I can make it. [:/]

i fished it it was pretty slow fishing but a great float pontoons did great except when the wind would pick up then you had to be on the oars the whole time i caught one bow on a rubber leg and fishdkd caught one also on an egg pattern.we both probably caught 40 whitefish between the two of us. some guys that we saw did really good they had a bunch of fish one that looked to be around 7 to 8 pounds. but the general concensus from most of the other people was it was pretty slow. we have pictures on fishdkd's camera he will have to post them though
