Just too nice of a day to put in a full day of work, Thursday. So, I took off early and hit up Utah Lake. Was nice to get back on the water (or any fishing for that matter). This was the longest steak I can ever remember not fishing (almost a month!!!). Anyways, on the water (north end) just after 5:00, and back to the dockjust after 8:00. The wife just didn't want to hear any of "the fishing is just as good if not better a little after dark." Well, got out to where I figured I could catch some fish, and anchored up. About 10 casts in, I had a pretty hard hit. I knew it wasn't a white bass, so I'm thinking WALLEYE!! So, not a walleye, but a nice little LMB. A first for me on UL. About 20 minutes go by with no action, then I hooked something nice.... too bad after a few seconds it breaks me off under the boat. Maybe 15-20 minutes later... another decent hook up. This time I got it to the net though. And....YES.. this one is a walleye, 22 1/2". It was very thick... so assuming it was a female, I took pics and was just about release it, when it started leaking the one thing that turned him into dinner. This was enough to make my evening. I also caught 3 white bass just as the sun was setting. All in all, a nice trip out for the first on the boat for the year.
