So I was finally getting the hang of fly fishing (still a long ways to go though) and had to get shoulder surgery (Labral tear and bone spurs). I am absolutely dying to get out, but probably cant get out until the end of May or June. Total bummer. So instead of crying every day that I wish I was fishing, I thought be productive and really dive into the details of fly fishing, especially the insect side of things. Can anyone recommend a good website that tells the different stages of aquatic insects, and also helps identify what is what? Also any other good fly fishing sites would be awesome. I love reading everybody's reports so keep them coming. Also, if there are any good fly fishing books or sites that focus on Utah would be great as well. Thanks.

I have seen a book not too long ago that was exactly what you are looking for. I can't remember the name of it right now but I know the person that has it so I will hit him up for the name of it and then let you know what it is. I am actually thinking of picking one up myself. They are pretty handy.

Well funny story...I actually talked to the kid that has the book today and totally forgot to ask. What I can tell you though is that it is a fairly short and fat book. With multiple orders of insects covered in the book. I wish I would have remembered, I was kinda rushed today though. I will see if I have his e-mail address, if I do I will shoot him an email and see what it is and then send the info your way. I'm not sure I will have it by tomorrow though.

No problem, I sent him an email but he hasn't replied yet. Hopefully it's not too long of a wait, I think I'm going to pick one up for myself as well.

Alright, after a long wait and much anticipation I have the name of the book. Its called the Hatch guide for Western Streams.

Dang, I could have told you that, it is a great book and I refer to it often, specially on picking a fly pattern.
