Fished Strawberry today in the Strawberry Marina area. Strange to see so few anglers there on a Saturday. Catching was so so -- landed 15 (all cutts). A fellow fishing buddy caught two fat bows. Tipped with meal worms and cut bait. Tried tipping with a crawler for awhile and couldn't buy a bite on it. Caught them in water from 18.5' to 28.5', both on the bottom and suspended. Walking was no problem until in the afternoon and then I broke through the top crusty layer and hit the slush underneath a few times. Beautiful warm weather.

Sounds like an ok day. The walking doesn't sound as bad as the last time we were there. I bet the weather was nice.

Sounds like the catching is slowing down, or were those 15 cutts all caught by you? When you broke through the top layer in the afternoon, how deep was it? I'm not sure the Berry has this problem but I have fished some lakes that have a foot or so between layers[crazy].

Yes I tried up to 45' deep without success. I walked about 8/10 of a mile away from The Strawberry Marina.

Yes, I caught 15 cutts, broke another one off with a monster hook set on 4 pound test line[frown], and lost a few others. There was a slush layer, under the top crust, of up to about 10 inches deep in some areas.

How thick is the ice up there?

Just got back from there a few minutes ago and the ice is approximately 3 feet thick.

Kent I do believe you about the ice being 3 feet thick because I was up there with you a couple weeks ago and it was 3 feet or so thick back then. However, a co-worker of mine says that she was up fishing the ladders from the bank with no ice in sight. Is it possible that there is no ice at the ladders and 3 feet of ice in the marina?!?!

I kind of wonder if my co-worker fished a different body of water and when she was talking to me was just "thinking" Strawberry. But she "swore" it was the ladders.

So, again, I wonder if it is possible that the ladders is completely ice free while there is still 3 feet of ice in the marina.

Any signs of the ice moving away from shore yet???

I never got anywhere near The Ladders; however, there is no way that there would be "no ice in sight" at The Ladders unless one's sight is very poor.

The edges were solid yesterday.

I can believe that one would fish the "bank" from the ladders as there is a small area that is ice free each year fairly early. Impossible that there was "no ice in sight" though. Lots of ice fishing still going on up there.
