[cool] Had a really great day on Saturday at DC. Decided to leave the big boat home and take the kick boat. Somehow being close to the water and the fish is a nicer experience with the smaller pontoon, at least early in the year before the power squadron gets out on the water. Launched at the East ramp at 6:30AM all by myself except for the Loons and a magnificant Bald Eagle resting in a tree by the island. I'm sure he was fishing also. Found the fish in shallow water in and around the marker bouys in the bay in about 35'. Nice fat Rainbows. The "late for a date" bunch started showing up around 9:00AM and the bite went dark around 11:00. It was an absolutely beautiful day with no wind. A little cool at launch time, 30 degrees, but warmed up nicely.
Caught 12 fish in the 2-3 lb range, released all but one for the smoker.

[#000080]Yes, the entire lake is ice free, both ramps are in use. The water is at full pool (up to the top of the island ramp). The key to catching the big boys is troll very slow with suttle speed ups. They didn't seem to want fast moving food. Still pretty cold water temps. I watched a lot of boats trolling at summer speeds and not doing well.[/#000080]

[#000080]Best of luck out there.[/#000080]

Thanks for the information. It makes sense that slow would be the key right now. Did you use flies or bait? I would love to catch some bows before ice off at Strawberry.
At Jordanelle, we fish for bows in rock cliff with black buggers and green or orange power bait drifted very slow. That works there as well. I wonder if Rock Cliff is ice free yet?

[#000080]I looked at the Jordanelle camera this morning and you can see that the main body by the Dam is ice free, but hard to tell how far down the arm towards Rock Cliffs the ice remains.[/#000080]
