This past Friday and Saturday April 9th and 10th Crappie USA held a 2-day $10,000.00 Super Event on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway at Columbus, Mississippi. These anglers were competing for not only the $10,000.00 in cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela's Crappie USA Classic to be held this Fall on the Pickwick/Wilson Lakes in Alabama.
"Beautiful weather and good fishin brought out over 100 anglers from 11 different states to fish in the Crappie USA $10,000.00 2-Day Super Event. This event ran down to the very end with some of the weights in the event the closest ever with only hundredths separating teams", said Crappie USA CEO Darrell Van Vactor.
Semi-Pro Division Results
Taking first place was the team of Ronny Capps and Steve Coleman of Tiptonville, Tennessee with a 2-day total weight of 20.19 pounds and earning $3,000.00. Ronny and Steve were fishing in the Pratts Camp area on Columbus Lake catching 25 fish on Friday and 30 on Saturday. The team was using lime/chartreuse glow Southern Pro jigs on 6 pound test Vicious line and B'n'M Poles in heavy wood cover fishing on bottom in 5.5-7.8 feet of water.
Second place went to Ray Looney of West Point, Mississippi and Charlie Kent of Baldwin, Mississippi weighing in 19.43 pounds and earning $1,200.00. Ray and Charlie were fishing Columbus Lake in 8-11 feet of water using only one pole, their B'n'M Pole with black/chartreuse and yellow/chartreuse Big Bite Baits catching 60-70 fish each day. Teams are only allowed to weigh in their best 7 fish each day.
In third place was the Columbus, Mississippi team of Steve Perritt and Joe Wilson weighing in 17.91 pounds and earning $800.00. Steve and Joe were fishing Columbus Lake in heavy wood cover using black/chartreuse Southern Pro jigs tipped with minnows. The team caught their fish on cover out off the bank on the outside of the cover catching 80 fish on Friday and 30 fish on Saturday.
Another Columbus team Larry Baldridge and Willis Bonner took fourth place with a weight of 17.64 pounds. Larry and Willis were fishing Aliceville Lake in 1-2 feet of water using Southern Pro green/orange tubes catching 50 fish on Friday and 45 fish on Saturday.
Fifth place went to Scott Watson of Paris, Tennessee and Tim Ridley of McKenzie, Tennessee with a total weight of 16.91 pounds. Scott and Tim were fishing in 8-14 feet of water on Columbus Lake using B'n'M Poles with 6 pound test Vicious Line and chartreuse Southern Pro tubes in standing timber. The team caught 70-80 fish on Friday and 50 fish on Saturday. Scott and Tim took home $250.00 for winning the Ranger Cup Award in the Semi-Pro division.
Amateur Division Results
First place in the amateur division was the team of Phillip Frost of Jasper, Alabama and Tim Fields of Bankston, Alabama with a total 2 day weight of 19.35 pounds and earning $2,000.00. Phillip and Tim were fishing Aliceville Lake in 7-10 feet of water using chartreuse jigs with their fish holding tight to wood and catching 20 fish per day.
Second place went to Wade Hendren of Ripley, Tennessee and Roy Logan of Troy, Tennessee weighing in 19.25 pounds and earning $1,000.00. Wade and Roy were fishing Columbus Lake in 3 feet of water using chartreuse Mid South jigs on 16 foot B'n'M Trolling Poles on 6 pound test line.
Taking third place was Tim and Cathy Langham of Conyers, Georgia weighing in 19.17 pounds and earning $800.00. Tim and Cathy were longline trolling on Columbus Lake in 3-10 feet of water using green/orange jigs to catch 20 fish per day.
In fourth was the team of Tracy Humber of Caledonia, Mississippi and Scott Humber of Vernon, Alabama with 18.65 pounds and earning $500.00. Tracy and Scott were fishing wood structure 5 feet deep using double hook rigs catching over 40 fish per day.
In a tie for Fifth place John Feagin and Matt Feagin of Mayfield, Kentucky and the team of Greg Sullivan of Jasper, Alabama and Tommy Jenkins of Arley, Alabama each weighed in 18.59 pounds with each team earning $350.00. The Feagin team was fishing Aberdeen Lake in 11 feet of water using blue/chartreuse and orange/chartreuse Southern Pro jigs catching 20 fish per day. Sullivan and Jenkins were fishing Columbus Lake in 10 feet of water with their fish suspended 5 feet deep on wood using live bait on B'n'M Poles.
The Ranger Cup award in the Amateur division went to the team of Brian Arnett of Kevil, Kentucky and Mark Shoulta of Symonia, Kentucky winning $125.00.
Big Fish Award
Taking big fish of the event was the team of Tracy Humber of Caledonia, Mississippi and Scott Humber of Vernon, Alabama with a 2.01 pound crappie and earning $370.00. Second place in the big fish contest was the team of Wade Hendren of Ripley, Tennessee and Roy Logan of Troy, Tennessee with a 1.98 pound crappie and earning the team $160.00.
Also a special drawing was held at the weigh in for 2-$500.00 cash awards. The winners of the cash awards were: Jesse and Nonna Wright of Fayette, Alabama and Kendall and Leslie Smith of Pikeville, Tennessee.

Crappie USA Free Kids Fishing Rodeo
In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$2,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela's Crappie USA Classic.
Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $270,000.00 to the "Crappie Kids" Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA "Kids Fishing Rodeos".
