I don't you'll have any issues. If you need, just get out on the ice around Joe Bush were if you go through it's only a few inches deep...

Thanks for the reply PBH. You're probably right - we should be fine...especially where the water doesn't get deep to fast.

I was out there saturday afternoon, north of the lodge. I had no problem getting on the lake. Post-holing through knee deep+ snow on the shore was more of the annoyance. All the slush from the past weeks seemed to have frozen on top of the ice and the whole cap is 2' thick with quite a bit of good clear ice underneath. At 4 pm it was getting just a little slushy (a half inch or so) on top.
If you go and plan on taking some fish home, take a cooler to put them in. I was going to keep a splake or two for the grill and had one flopping on the ice 2' from my foot. While I had my back turned, a juvenile golden eagle swooped by at 30 mph or so and snatched it. Pretty brazen little turd. Scared the crap outta me. And there are not many people fishing, so his choice of victims is pretty limited now.
Good luck,
Jim

Jim,
Thanks for the update. There's not a whole lot worse than post-holing! Other than that, it sounds like the conditions are decent.
Hah...I've heard about those eagles at FL. Pretty brazen indeed!
Thanks again for the report.

I was there today with my brother from 8.30am until 2.30pm. 2' of ice. Top 1' layer is solid frozen slush, 1' solid ice below that. Solid footing. Easy on, easy off. Temp. was probably 45+ degrees and W calm nearly all day.
Over 50 splake ice between 14 - 20". Many more quickly released before reaching the hard deck. All were caught on either a 2" mini spook or 2" glow tube tipped with cut bait fished at depths of 20 - 85'. Bows would take crawler hanging 10-12' under the hard deck.
