Finally getting our scanoe and 5hp wet in Utah this year (for 15+ years we've gone to Yellowstone w/ it, but never registered it in Utah). As you know, you definitely don't need to use a boat ramp for a scanoe. I'm wondering, is it OK to carry your boat to the water at places like rockport without paying the state park fees? We plan on frequenting Causey, but looking at previous year's posts it appears the water is pretty murkey there after ice off until at least late May. Any tips on other places to haunt would be appreciated! I plan on staying off of the reservoirs frequented by large motorboats, as they make sitting in a scanoe pretty hair-raising.

I used to take my scanoe, with a little electric trolling motor, to Strawberry all the time. We would put in at Mud Creek and troll out and then north (chicken creek area)

Had a lot of fun doing that, almost enjoyed it more than being in a 'regular' boat, except when the wind kicked up!

A large part of the Rock Cliff arm of Jordanelle is wakeless. There's lots of water and good fishing.

I just picked up a scanoe and 5hp motor a few months ago. I took it to Sand Hollow for my first outing. I really appreciated the outboard when the wind came up. We might have been in trouble with an electric trolling motor, or at the least put in to shore at an inconvenient location. So far, I really like it and can't wait to get it out again.

Lost Creek, Causey, East Canyon, BC, and Woodruff are some good spots. I have a Scanoe with an electric and I love it. I tried the gas motor thing and hated it. I guess if you have a nice reliable motor, it can be good. I love the peace and quiet of the Electric and it gets around just fine. I can go all day and my battery still has them same power as when I started.

Causey will be "Brown" until the middle of may. You can still catch fish though. Usually you can kill the rainbows that time of year trolling nothing but a spinner right behind the boat.

Also, be careful trying to register your scanoe in Utah. Some offices don't know how to do it and will charge you much more than you should have to pay.

The Parks & Rec folks have made fee areas out of most of the parking areas outside the actual state park. In other words, you still have to pay the day use fees to use these parking areas outside the actual park. This is true at Rockport and East Canyon for sure and I would guess others as well. You can get around this by buying and using an annual parks pass, but it will cost you $70 with the $5 coupon printed in the proclamation (fishing guide). Federal reservoirs, like Pineview and Strawberry, are a different story all together. Good luck with figuring it all out. The ‘guvment’ (feds or state) don’t want to make it easy for you.[crazy][/#800000]
