Does anyone use an anchor? I do enjoy some bait fishing for trout and on occasion I do enjoy not having to kick around to stay in one place. I always catch myself drifting due to “Gosh darn boaters” and I end up not successful on the bait fishing. Does anyone use an anchor?

My husband does, but he uses links of large chain attached to a Carabiner.
He can add or subtract chain as needed

I have several anchors but never use them. Mainly because you need 2 to really hold position, since you will still swing around some with a single. Also, don't like carrying more weight on my small pontoon. If you hookup with a big one, no way to chase it by the time you pull up anchor. Now, I just hover to hold position with a troll motor, which gives more flexibility to do various things.

I use two anchors.

Anchor trolley with a 5lb rubber coated dumbbell. Problem solved.
If Im in my float tube, just line and dumbbell attached to one of the tube's D ring.

I have one but not used it in years. I put one on the toon for one reservoir (Strawberry) for if you do not have one there you are blown off the water by 9 am. Haven't fished strawberry in 10 years. Looks like I gotta go back.[cool] Anchors do have their uses at times.

I have tried a couple of anchors but haven't had much luck with them holding in the wind. Probably too small.

Problem with Strawberry is it gets deep real fast. That is allot of rope to be playing with.
I don't use them. Like mentioned, flippers/motor. Works just fine. Can chase the fish when needed also.

I have a 100' rope that I use. I was able to talk Anderson Lumber (when they were around) out of an old spool that was empty from their bulk rope chain area. Holds it nicely. But like I said I haven't used it in years due to not fishing strawberry in years. I made it for that lake specifically. Got tired of being blown around.

I use a 10 to 15 pound pyramid to anchor up why eating lunch or keeping the toon in place why i walk away from it fishing on moving rivers. I built my anchor bracket and anchors and use a rope ratchet .

Peter,
Call Dave and have him send you a catalog and also ask about the "how to row a river" instructional dvd.
I just received several catalogs as I ran out after handing them out. I'm trying to increase the number of pontooners down here for my float club. 3 of my friends have bought one so far.
Back on topic, I use an anchor when the wind comes up. I bought the Scadden star anchor. I anchor and then use my standing platform to fish all around me, then lift and drift a little and start all over again.
