I heard from a friend of a friend that the Salmon was pretty much unfishable, because of water and mud. Does anyone know for sure if it is muddy? I looked up the river levels and they have gone up significantly in the last few days, but would like to make one last weekend for steelheadin, was thinking of going up to Stanley area but have to go to Salmon to get the camper anyway.
Any info is greatly appreciated!

I was up there 3 days ago, around deadmans hole and the water has literally come up about a foot and a half to two feet, and yes it was pretty much unfishable you cannot see the bottom its so muddy, now onwards uptoward stanley the water got crystal clear, but the crowds got thick.. i still managed to catch steelhead but the water was a little low, was still fun, if i was making one last trip i would head that way just a fare warning if you thought dutch oven was bad.(as far as crowds). wait tell you see stanley Wink good luck!!

Between Salmon and Challis today it was very muddy and quite a bit higher. There were still rigs parked at Ellis and some guys towing boats around. Diehards, I guess.

Just because a river is muddy doesnt mean its unfishable. You need to change up your tactics. Think bigger/brighter baits, lots of scent, and fish closer to the shore..........
