Well, I am 7 weeks post shoulder surgery and thought it would be another month before fishing. But last Friday I was cleaning up a bit and had my rod and realized if I kept my elbow against my body, I could kind of fish. Especially on a smaller river. So I said what the heck.
Hit the Weber yesterday evening. Only fished for a few hours. Caught a bunch of whities and a few browns. Water levels were a little low but clarity was pretty good. My biggest problem was setting the hook becausee I couldnt lift my arm very high. The highlight was catching what I thought would be the biggest brown I have ever caught. Took me several minutes to get him in. I looked pretty funny the way I had to hold my arm. Turned out to be a huge freakin carp about 22 inches long and fat. That gave the shoulder a good workout. Although I wished it was a brown, still pretty fun to fight that bugger on a fly rod. Caught all fish on sow bugs and bh hares ear. Great day after not fishing for so long.

I was throwing streamers on Saturday. Stopped for 1/2 hour and nymphed--- caught a brown, white and a HUGE carp. My second time on the L. Weber. I was not aware of carp being in the river.

Last year I had something similar happen. The carp took off like a brown and I thought I had the biggest brown on! Well once I saw the tail, I stopped babying the fish and jerked that fish right in. It was a 24 inch carp. It wasn't until a few weeks later that I stopped and looked into this hole and the carp were piled in there. So, yes, that lower section has a lot of carp.

Very fun to catch though. Just take a garbage bag and go for it.

I remember as a kid doing just that up at Pineview during the spawn. Of course it's kind of creepy when you have all of these fish swimming around your legs.

You almost had the trash grand slam (or triple anyway) of the Webe[sly]. That's catching a carp, Utah sucker and whitefish. Very few will ever achieve this in a single day fishing so don't feel bad[laugh].

haha. I never thought of it that way. Trash grand slam. That is awesome. I was at physical therapy and found out I shouldn't be fishing yet. I didn't tell him I already went. Oh well. I have to tell you, this fly fishing thing gets real addicting when you start catching on a consistent basis. I've fished for a long time, but mostly spin fishing. Fly fishing opens a whole new world and is nice because sometimes streams can be so close. And there is so much to investigate and learn. Thanks to everyone for their help on all my questions.
