Got out this morning at daybreak to scout out some areas for Saturday. Started with a Sammy in 2-4 feet of water. 3 out of the first 4 fish were keepers. Trolled by some laydowns and pitched a jig for a while with no takers. Backed off a bit and tossed them a lizard on the deeper sides of the trees. Caught 2 more keepers. Had my limit although nothing to write home about. I then squeezed the barb flat and the point down to prevent hookups. I've always found it extremely difficult to shake a fish off. Shook them off for another half hour. Ran north to see if they were on a deep water hump. Nope. Fished a stumpy point in Harrison Bay with no luck. I got off the water around noon. My five would've gone around 11 lbs. Had good bites though with the blunt hook. The main channel was stained but the sloughs were clear. Wind wasn't a factor. Water temps were in the upper 60's in the main channel and low 70's in the sloughs.
In all the years I've been fishing the Chick, I've never seen as much debris in the water like I saw today. Especially around Sequoyah. Be careful out there.
