Illini West entered day two of the 2010 IHSA Bass Fishing State Finals in sixth place, but the Chargers hauled in five fish for a total of 16 pounds, 3 ounces on day two, catapulting the squad to the state championship. Illini West bagged the five-fish boat maximum on both days of the competition en route to becoming the state's second state champion, as the anglers' day-one total of 14 pounds, 2 ounces gave them a winning two-day total of 30 pounds, 5 ounces.
Moline (5 fish, 11 pounds-4 ounces on Saturday, 25 pounds-8 ounces total) finished as the tourney runner-up, Alden-Hebron (5, 11-8, 25-6) placed third and Pinckneyville (5, 9-14, 24-13) and Okaw Valley (4, 7-8, 22-8) rounded out the Top 5, respectively.<br />
Bradley Bourbonnais sophomore Jack Waldschmidt took home honors for the tournament's largest fish, as no competitor was able to top his Friday catch that weighed in at 5 pounds, 13 ounces.<br />
Okaw Valley's Ryan Brandenburg and Jessie Newton won the Team Casting Contest with a 5-2 victory in the finals over Lemont's Matt Burns and Chris Walter.<br />
For the tournament, competitors pulled 293 bass totaling 252 pounds, 3 ounces from Carlyle Lake. One fish died for a 99.6 percent survival rate.<br />
