Me and Colby had a good one last night. We did not get a check but we were one good fish from getting one. Sooo close. I posted the winners and the top ten under "Tournaments and Trails". There was thirty boats that fished it and some very good anglers showed up that I would categorize in the "Ringer" category. emoBig I really thought me and Colby did not have a chance.

Blast off was at 6:30. We hauled butt down river with about half the field. The bass are moving deep but they are not consistent where they are holding. We started on a ledge with a deep point in about 20 to 25 feet. Pig/jig was the bait of choice there. Right off on the second cast I nailed a 16 incher. emoThumbsup Then we nailed a couple slicks. Then I nailed two more 15 inchers and a hair. A couple more slicks and it was over there. Moved to two more humped with wood and found nothing. Not much time in these three hour dog fights so we moved again. This time we hit a deep ledge and right off I have a nice spot but it was hooked deep on a shakey and bleeding. You cannot weigh in dead ones on this dog fight so I released it right off hoping it would make it. A couple slick LM later I have another spot but this one was good. Not big...only 13.5 inches. Then Colby hangs a good spot about 14 inches and he swings it into the boat, again on a shakey. About the time I said,"That's our limit." It shakes off the hook, hits the side of the boat and bounces right back in the water. emoDoh At this point I have four in the well to his none so I was ragging him good. emoPoke Two or three more slicks and I am saying the little ones only seem to be here. I no sooner get that out and he sets the hook. Rod bends good and up jumps a nice 3.5er. emoFish I grab the net and he has it pulling drag. He had some light line on so could not force it. I get the net ready and it comes flying out of the water about four foot from the boat. As it does the hook comes out and I reach for it and catch it in the net! emoDance Lucky, lucky...LUCKY! emoBig Now we have our five...time to cull. One more slick and a small spot there so we moved on. Hit another hump just off the channel, nothing happening, about the time I said we better move on my line got heavy. Set the hook and up comes another nice keeper LM. emoThumbsup Culled our 13.5 spot.

We head for a flat with one hour to go. The flat was about 3 to 8 feet and we used shakeys. A couple more slicks and I finally set the hook on another nice LM. Cull again and get rid of one of our 15.1 keepers. emoThumbsup Now it is dark, about 9 o'clock so time is running out. I set the hook again and this time it does not give. In the dime light up comes another 3+ LM. Colby gets the net under it and we culled again. I told him we needed one more good one and we might get a check. We had one 15.5 incher left in the well we needed to cull. It was not to happen. emoBawl Time ran out and we ended up with 12.49 lbs. Only about 2.5 lbs out of the win, so we needed a 4.25 lber to win it. Had a blast on this one and Colby is a good partner. Felt like we were in the hunt and came in sixth place out of the 30 boats. emoBooHoo

Good night for us, we are getting better and I feel we are coming on. Congrats to Churly and RamJack for the win. emoApplause Jmax
