Since Mrs EricM was out of town today (earning enough for me to keep fishing)(I love you dear emoBig ), I decided to hit the downtown area and try the areas that Mr Wiskers showed me to catch rock bass and redbreast sunfish. I was on the water at 7 am, although admittedly it took me a bit longer to get downtown with my boat than it did in the Wiskers Rocket the other day. However, at no time today was I at risk of being hit in the center of the forehead by a bug and being knocked out, so the slow ride was fine with me.

I had a Mr Wiskers kind of day, having to wade through those nasty spotted bass to get to the beloved google eyes. I lost count of the google eye catch somewhere around 253,417 - or so it seemed - with one TARP Rock Bass at 10". Next biggest was 9.5", with quite a number around 8". The color variations were amazing from the big females (I assume) being light colored and the males (I assume again) running to nearly solid black. The bite really was terrific on tube jigs, and it is unbelievable how a tiny rock bass will hit a big jig - just like a spotted bass.

While I was catching BIG redbreasts (9 to 10 inch), I accidentally caught ONE bluegill - but WHAT a bluegill!!! The best part of 10-1/4" long!!!! This is my biggest bluegill to date. Like an idiot, I didn't net the thing and instead swung it over the side with my 4 lb test. I was really lucky on this one that I didn't break it off. I broke off several spots doing the same trick. emoDoh

The wind came up and made it a challenge to fish, so I quit at 2:30. I was wiped out by then anyway. The wind made it a bit exciting to get the relatively flat-bottomed boat back on the trailer, but I managed to finish the day once again without breaking or losing anything.

Oh, I saw Fishin Fool and Fishin Fire out today, so I stopped to say hi to them. I didn't recognize anyone else on the water. Here are a couple of pics:
