I just found a place to live for dental school and will be moving to Ontario, Ca second week in july and was wondering if anyone has any info on fishing in the area. I am trying to figure out what kind of gear I should make sure and bring along. I also have a 17 ft tri-hull that I am trying to decide if I should bring with me that is rigged up for kokanee fishing. I am also looking to get into some good pier fishing when I get down there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Hi Jed, I live in Alta Loma about 5 miles north of Ontario. Not sure the type of fishing your prefer, but for fresh water your less than an hour from several lakes. Just head up to Big Bear Mountain and there is some decent trout fishing up there. I am a saltwater fan and I usually hit Marina Del Rey about an hour drive from Ontario. Today I went on the half day boat on the Freelancer and caught a couple of Reds and my limit on Sculpin. Any day now the barracuda season will.

Cheers,

I love to fish pretty much anything that swims but I especially like to fish saltwater. One of my main questions thought is whether or not it would be worth bringing the boat or would the registration and launching fees make it not really worth bringing. Also I am wondering how easy is it to find good pier fishing around that area (I am going to be awfully strapped for cash) but I really do want to get into some salt. Good job on the fish by the way. I love skulpins and reds they are way too yummy. Thanks for the reply to my post. I appreciate the help,
Jed
