May 14,15,16-Hit Starvation at first light on the 14th. Fished in 9'-53' of water, Saleratus to the river inlet, nothing, not even a bite. Water temp 47*. Left at 11:00.
Pelican, 60* when I got there at noon. 54* the next morning. LOTS of dinks under 12", I have a torn up thumb. Pikeman99 joined our club tournament and he is an awesome guy, very knowledgeable about fishing and just an all out good guy with a memory that is unmatched [

]. It was a pleasure having him there.
Big fish of the tourney was 18"+, mine 17 1/2". I did find a couple bass on beds but they were deep in the reeds in 'channels' where the water was protected from the wind.

Sweet! I'm headed up this weekend and I'm so stoked! Any advice at getting on some of the bigger bass? Were they looking at some colors more than others? Do you think they've already spawned or are they just staging now?

No, they haven't spawned yet but the males are in the shallows and it won't be long as the weather stays calm. I caught my big fish on a pegged 1/4 oz. texas rigged black lizard on the edge of the reeds in 6' but my next biggest was on a weightless sand colored senko in 2' of water. It really comes down to being in the right place at the right time in that lake for the big ones. I'll send a pm.

I fished Pelican on Saturday morning with my little brother from a canoe. We only fished a couple spots close to where we launched on the east side of the lake. We started out throwing worms and jigs and it was pretty slow. I switched to a white spinnerbait with a little red and caught 15 between 1 and 3 PM. They were all very small, the biggest being 1 lb 14 oz. I caught a few right before we left on a pearl 5" senko. My brother caught 10 using a black jig. He had lots more bites but couldn't get a good hookset from sitting down in the canoe. He tried a white spinnerbait but wasn't having as much luck.
A couple other boats fished near us a few times during the day and I saw them all catching fish using all kinds of lures of varying colors. I should mention the boaters kept their distance from our little canoe and I appreciated that. Earlier in the morning when the bites were hard to come by I did catch a couple on a motor oil colored worm. We had a lot of fun but wished we could have gotten something a little bigger. I've fished Pelican three times now and I haven't gotten anything over 2 pounds. On the way home we decided to call this lake Never Never Land because it seems the fish never grow up. Any tips on finding a bigger one for me and my little bro would be appreciated.

Did you guys go into that little 'pond' next to the creek channel? I think I might have seen you. Bigger baits=bigger fish most of the time but there are so many small ones in Pelican and so much structure it's really just a gamble on catching a big one. I caught my three pounder on the same lizard I caught 30 12 ouncers on.

Yea that was us in the pond. The last time I was there that pond didn't exist. It looks like the farmer built up the walls there. The first time I fished Pelican we caught a whole bunch around that metal cage in the water. We were excited to get back there because it was only accessible to a little boat like ours. Unfortunately we didn't get a bite. Though it is a good place to get my little canoe out of the waves when the wind comes up.
