i fished both EC and rockport from the boat today trying something i learned last week. i caught 23 fish total, but therein lies the problem... i was deep water nymphing, and the largest fish i caught was MAYBE 12 inches, and thats a big maybe..... 9 foot leader> 9 foot tippet > fly > 2 foot dropper > split shot > 2nd fly. i know the flies were down on the bottom, and it was fun catching fish, but on average, the fish were about all of 8 inches long.... any ideas of what im dong wrong?

on a side note, i have never fished EC or rockport from a boat.

Just catching planters and 23 is a good day.

If you wonder why you're not catching bigger fish then fish where the bigger fish are. Silly answer I know but fish school with similarly sized fish. So if you're catching 10inchers in a given area then move to another area.

The method you describe will catch fish of all sizes. You just need to be in front of bigger fish. Those same fish will be over a foot long this fall so remember where they were and go back for them.

I would agree with oldtroller sounds like your doing everything right if you landed 23 fish its not a bad day, seems like you just need to find where the big ones are holding.

One way I normally fish the lakes is use full sinking line ranging from 2 to 4 sink with a 9 ft leader with leech pattern up top and a nymph on the bottom about 12 inches apart with no split shot.

( P.s. hope you dont mind I post.. one of my first posts on the forum. Been a long time reader) [Smile]
