So I hit the lake yesterday evening but was disappointed to see that it was like an ocean out there. The wind was out of control! But we had a lot of fun watching all the wind surfers out to Lincoln Beach. We even saw one guy jump one of the dikes there (unfortunately we didn't get a pic of it[frown]). We then were able to find some calm water in a little cove on the west side. I didn't have any luck with worms or spinners so I threw on a black and gray three inch frog imitation carolina rigged and hooked into a good bucket mouth. A few casts later I caught a crappie. I was pretty excited because if you noticed I had written a post earlier in the month asking how to catch crappie. The funny thing was I had posted something to the effect of thinking crappie had smaller mouths than white bass because I had caught plenty of WB and never a crappie, I just thought it made sense that my bait was too big. Well I was dead wrong! That crappie tried to gulp that 3 inch bait! Anyways I went out there again tonight and caught an even bigger crappie of a senko that I rigged up "wacky worm" style, I surprised myself. And my nephew was able to land one mud cat. Lesson to learn? You can catch just about any fish on just about any bait on just about any size when the conditions allow.
