WOW! What a great deal for folks wanting to learn some basic skills or earn a Hunter Education card!!

LAMAR, Colo. - The Colorado Division of Wildlife will offer a free weekend full of outdoor adventure and skills classes at Two Buttes State Wildlife Area, south of Lamar, Friday through Sunday, June 4-6, 2010.

The weekend is geared toward youth and families who want to learn more about outdoor skills or earn their Hunter Education card. The event begins with skills classes Friday at 1 p.m. and runs through Sunday at 4 p.m.. The DOW will provide all of the equipment and meals. Several local sponsors and clubs are supporting this event with food, supplies and volunteers.

Participants will be able to learn and practice skills such as shooting, archery, map and compass, safety, survival and much more, in an interactive way with instruction by Division of Wildlife staff.

"This weekend will give us a chance to teach a hunter education course more in depth than we usually have the opportunity to, and allow the students time to get more hands-on experience." said Jonathan Reitz, District Wildlife Manager. "Folks can come to enjoy the fun and learning in the outdoor setting and have the option to also earn their Hunter Ed card."

Skills classes will take place during the day and participants must be prepared to for the weather. Evenings will offer fishing, campfires or optional sessions.

Families will be allowed to tent camp; youth staying overnight must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Meals will be provided, but campers must bring their own camping equipment, no trailers or RV's allowed. There is no cost to attend.

This year's event will take place at the Two Buttes State Wildlife Area about forty miles southeast of Lamar.
