Friend and I are headed up there for a day trip this weekend. I've never been, and so I'm looking for suggestions or recent reports.

We'll be fishing from shore, and I'm hoping to catch some of those big cats or crappie that are supposed to live there. Not looking for anyone's honey holes, but it would suck to drive all that way and get skunked.

Anyone fished there lately or willing to give me some pointers? Feel free to PM me if you'd rather.

We were there 21/22 before we got rained out. We went to the North end via 71, the South side might be better for cats but the main access is the Oregon side there. We caught plenty of 10" Crappie and Smallmouth from shore, fishing was good enough we never launched the boat. Chartreuse jigs fished slow were the ticket for us. Good luck[cool]

There are tons of crappie and smallies in Brownlee. Fishing plastics off the bank and casting crappie jigs will produce. If you aren't catching fish, move. Start fishing off points, and move into the coves. Once you find crappie, note the structure and how far in the cove you are - and repeat in the next cove you fish.

Catfish are a south end (Steck Park on the Idaho side) game. Fish the points, and alluvial fans at the bottom of draws with worms, cutbait, and mormon crickets if you can finbd any. Those big succulent bugs are money there. You can also drive the road near Huntington, down along Spring Launch and clear down the west side. Lots of options there if you are willing to buy an Oregon license.

I may be wrong, but as I understand it you don't need an Oregon license unless you wade, fish from the shore, or fish a river or creek coming in. If you just launch a boat or float tube and fish out in the water on that side the Idaho license is ok.

Your right, if your feet touch land on the Oregon side while activly fishing you better have a Oregon licence. Also you need to stay in the main river area. If you go up a stream cove on the Oregon side that is also a no, no. Ron

We had a last minute change of plans, and the trip unfortunately had to be postponed. So I'll be going either next weekend or the weekend after.

Thanks for the advice though, I'll definitely take it into account and post a report when I go.
