finally got some fishing in this last weekend. we fished cutler just behind my house and we did alright, i caught two and my two other companions caught two as well, i was only able to get a picture of mine. but they all averaged 6 pounds and the biggest is the one pictured. it being 9 pounds. we all lost a few as well. my buddy said he went back the next day and caught one that was 19 pounds, but i never got a picture so it could be a fish story... but it was a good time!!

Is there a lot of snags at Cutler or is it like Willard?

It dpends where you are fishing, if you are by the bridges be prepared to lose have of your tackle box if you are not careful!

ive never had an issue with snags...but im not saying they aren't there.

How deep is it over by the dam?

I have eaten walleye, crappie and catfish from out of there on several occasions and they are just fine. I'm fixen to eat some kitties tonight that my family caught last night.

they were really good actually, i was pleasantly surprised. i didnt think twice about where they were from, and whats wrong with eating things from cutler? its not any different than Willard or Utah lake or the bear river even? that's my opinion.

and im not exactly sure how deep the it is by the damn, ive only been in the shallows duck hunting and cat fishing so i couldn't tell you.

I agree ive ate tons of fish that came out of cutler or the bear river and they taste great.

Where along Cutler were you fishing?

I've recently tried exploring to find some deep holes - along Cutler and the Bear river. But I haven't found the big cats. Finally hooked into some Channel cats, and not just the yellow bellies! Lots of tap-tap bites, but still hoping for that fat-cat that just inhales and strolls away....

What kind of bait and rig do you use?

I still haven't seen any Crappie or Walleye in those waters. Though I'm hopeful. Anyone know any good spots to locate them? I was told Crappie on jigs by the wooden bridge across from Benson Marina. But we didn't have any luck at ice-off.

Thanks.

I have always enjoyed fishing Cutler- for many many years- but it is the catch basin of Cache Valley- I don't eat anything out of there and not because of the tatse.

As has been mentioned before, you can say the same thing for Utah Lake, the Jordon River, and even Willard Bay! Cutler looks the way it does because of several factors and most are not due to humans or animals but due to the silt from erosion up stream in Idaho and also the clay river bottom its self.

No you cant say that about Willard. The weber and ogden run clean and clear until the freeway where it slows and gains some color but the water is Far cleaner than the bear. Dunno jack about Jordan R or UL but the bear river is a seriously dirty drainage. I'm actually glad there are dams along the way or we would have alot more pollutants and silt. Dirtiest drainage west o the mississippi. Please, educate me if i'm wrong?

It's pretty clear and full of trout just upstream in Idaho. It doesn't get really nasty until it crosses the Utah border.

Just north of Preston the water in the Bear River supports trout but as the river moves south and west of Preston it passes an area that dumps a huge amount of silt into the river. The bottom from there on is more of a clay and very little gravel in it. It is murky the rest of the way to the Great Salt Lake. A very similar thing happens to the Green River below little hole. The Logan River and Little Bear also look murky as soon as they reaches the valley floor as do the Weber and Ogden rivers. If the valley floor was rock or gravel these rivers would look total different.
