It looks like an odd tuning fork. What is that word on it, perhaps if you google that you can turn up something on it.
I've never seen anything like that fishing. Then again though, I am still pretty young.

I thought it has the look of a tuning fork as well. It vibrates if you hit it but does not make an audible sound. All it says on it is Guatemala. I will look into the strike indicator idea. Thanks for the input.

It's a spindle to hold thread when your tie flys. Thread spool goes between the knobs and the line is run through the front.
