Not open yet.

Call the Lowman Ranger Station regularly. The have up to the minute accurate road condition report....and very helpful / friendly. As of Monday, was closed still.

We go in August and that usually times the Cutt spawn and the Kokanee ab 20 feet. Bows anytime. Mid August.

Good Luck!

I know of two people that drove to Deadwood today. 1st guy got stuck in snow between Elk Creek and the summit, but dug himself before the other guy got there to help. Just talked to them a minute ago and they are at the Dam now.
Didn't really ask them anything else.
The reservoir is full and will be spilling over the spillway any minute now.

Got this off the Boise National Forest website, info as of 6-9. fr 563 and 582 are the roads i used to take to get into Deadwood early.

Bearskin Road - 563 - County Jurisdiction - Road Closed. Culvert washed out at Bear Creek.
Lowman - Bear Valley Road -582 - County Jurisdiction - Road closed. 24" culvert washed out approximately 2 miles northeast of 563/582 road intersection.

[ul][li] All campgrounds along the South Fork Payette River are open. [li] Park Creek Campground is open. [li] The road to Grandjean is open. [li] Bull Trout Campground road is closed and inaccessible due to snow. [li]The Clear Creek Road (NFSR 582) is open 13 miles to the gate prior to climbing to the summit. [li] Deadwood Reservoir is inaccessible due to snow on all access roads. [li] Scott Mountain Road (NFSR 555) is free of snow a few miles up the road. Deadwood is still inaccessible from this road. [li] The Landmark Stanley Road (NFSR 579) is open from Highway 21. There is access to Bruce Meadows and the Bear Valley area. [li] Trails that begin near the South Fork Payette River are open and snow free at lower elevations. Deep snow can be expected on trails at higher elevations, especially on north facing slopes. We had two more guys drive up to the Dam yesterday, it not easy but they have been doing it. Water is spilling a half foot over the top spillway of lake. I also should note that these folks I'm talking about are do some work at the Dam, so if the roads are closed, they would have just drove around it and kept going.

The new plan is to take our atv's as far as we can go over Scott Mountain. Two out of the 5 guys that are going have tracks on theirs so they can pull the rest of us through some of the bigger drifts. Ought to be an adventure if nothing else. If we make it all the way I'll take a pic of the damn spill and post it.

I tried to talk them into going the Bear Valley route but they thought that would be too easy. lol

Please knock the drifts down so they will melt. I really want to take my boat up there...[cool]

Hey, Thanks for info on deadwood looking do my sesonal 4th of july koke trip.

Well I whimped out and went to CJ to catch 3 small bass and a trout. Haven't caught a crappie or seen any on the fish finder the last three trips!

The guys that went said it would be a week or two before you get over Scott Mountain in a vehicle but they made some trails through the drifts. They caught a few trout from the bank. They also saw a boat on the lake! I guess the road coming in from Cape Horn is open. Last time I went in there this early I couldn't keep the starving kokes off my line for nothing.

Great Pics, Thanks
Last year the Kokes seemed larger than normal, we had some 18-19 inchers...Your thought>?

Has anyone driven the Bear Valley route into Deadwood recently? Just wondering if it is passable with a large boat/trailer. Any feedback is much appreciated!

Thanks Flydragger! The road from Bear Valley to Deadwood should be open according to the ranger station. Hopefully the warmer weather is melting the remaining snow so the other roads can open as well.
