Ok, I'm a tuber and right at the get go have a di

vantage, right? Anyway, what few I've caught I recognize they are about the fightingness game fish out there and they eat well. Problem is, I don't know how to be successful, so I need help. Hate to ask. [blush] I probably know what to use, although any suggestions wouldn't hurt. What I do need to know is where to go, how to find em, and what time of year is best for a tuber. Besides what I asked, the bottom line, I just want to be able to go and catch maybe 3 when I go. Please give me some advice. PM would be great if necessary. I obviously don't have a boat with side planners. [frown]

Leaky - I fish from my toon all summer and the most productive place for me has been the south west corner. I launch and head NORTH along the west dike. I have been successfull in catching multiple species from wipers to walleye to cats. I have two rod holders so i drag bait (worm or minnows) and throw plastics and cranks with the other rod. In july have had boils right next to me which is awesome!. The hike is really easy to launch from the south west corner and normally the boating traffic is not to bad! I hope this helps

I'm with Leaky. Just got skunked again Sunday at Willard. We tooled around the north harbor jigging, tossing gulps and worms, and plastics. Nada. Hoping to introduce my son to Crappie!
We were right on top of some BIG carp! But they didn't seem interested in anything. I did have something (wiper?) follow a crankbait right up the boat, but then I ran out of room.
My question is what colors do you find successful? What depth do you cover?
I swear I offered everything I could muster - different depths/speeds, and no takes. Aimed mostly for silver/white shad imitations. Jointed Walley divers, dragged gulp minnows, and gulp worms, and real worms on a worm-spinner, a crawdad too. We zig-zagged along the north dike across from the beach area.
We met one wiper crossing the mid-zone returning from the SW corner about a month ago (first wiper! son was thrilled!). That did seem a popular spot. Figure that must mean something. But two subsequent trips have led to nothing. At it was warm out!
Guess we'll try the South Marina next time.

Personally the past few weeks for me the wiper fishing has been slow! I was killing the wipers out of the north marina on a simple maribou jig and bobber rig. When i fished the bay yesterday we only caught one small 14" wiper. Once the weather heats up some more the wipers will pick up.. I talked with a game warden and he said the wipers they gill netted are pretty big so this years wiper action should be awesome! Also once the boils start you and your son will have a ball! Good luck
