I currently have A.T.&T, hate it, their service sucks and they're expensive. At strawberry I have zero signal. Had Verizon, great service and signal, also expensive and I don't like the long contracts either of these companies handcuffs you with. Curious about the cell phone plans with no contracts and cheaper monthly, i.e. Cricket, Boost, T-mobile. How is the service outside of the Wasatch Front? If I can get a good one with service like Verizon, I'll gladly pay the early termination fees.

I have Verizon. like it. I get service in the middle of Flaming Gorge. My buddy has T mobile i belive and he pretty much has service anywhere i do for the most part. I think once up near Smith Morehouse area he ran out of signal and i still had a bar or two. but that may have been his older phone too. make sure you get the phone capable of using all the coverage, not just the cheap phone they give you for free. some of those will run on one band and not receive full digital signals or may be in some cases still an analog signal. check in on the technical side of the equipment too, may be you can solve your issue by upgrading your equipment not neccisarily your provider.

I have Sprint, and have no complaints. I have reception at just about everywhere Ifish besides the high unitas, and up fairview canyon (e-lake, huntington, cleveland) Oh, and it's hit and miss at starvation. But, strawberry, scofield, and many others I frequent are fine.

I think if you check, all those pay as you go providers actually piggyback on a major providers service, so if Cricket or another buys their connectivity from AT&T, the connection you get will be the same.

I agree with you though AT&T- my provider, doesn't have as great a range as Verizon and some places I go, I don't have the connection that my buddy with Verizon has.

I have T-Mobile and I have almost always been able to get reception even in remote areas. A couple of times I have climbed to the top of a hill to get a better signal. I have been surprised more often that I have had a signal in areas that I would not expect.

[font "Courier New"][#004080][size 3]I would not suggest Cricket. Somebody mentioned they piggy-back, but apparently not very well.

My sister went rafting on the Weber River. She was due home to pick up her 3 year old son at 2:30 P.M. ...well, come 7 P.M., and she still gone, my dad got worried. Went to her house, wondering if maybe she took a quick nap first and just didn't wake up in time...not home. So he had me call the Sherrif's office (he has bad hearing, especially on the phone). Of course, as I'm on the phone giving her physical description, vehicle she took, where she went, etc... in she comes!
Apparently she got no signal on her Cricket phone in the canyon (and she was really only 15-20 miles from Ogden city). Said she tried calling, but the phone was busy...I had only been using the phone for about 5 minutes before she came home.... apparently her signal came back just out of the canyon - which is about 5 miles from our house.

So... I would not trust Cricket. Plus, they only give you 100 roaming minutes (unless you pay for more, I think?)... and with being out fishing as often as we are, I don't think 100 would be very much at all.

I have T-mobile for the last 6 years, and love it! I can get signals at Willard, Utah Lake, and up at Snowbird in the mountains of Cottonwood Canyon.

Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like T-mobile may be the way to go. I know I can keep my same phone number, but will I need to "flash" or "jailbreak" my phone to keep the same phone?

I left Tmobile for verizon.
I have a lot of work in Park City and the surrounding area. I also have to make 20-30 calls in the evening to set up work and talk with customers for the next day. I was constantly losing calls or getting server busy recordings w/ Tmobile and it drove me crazy. \
Verizon has been the best for me so far.
I had Nextel then Tmobile and finally Verizon. My wife had Sprint and she left for Verizon.
I can get service in some pretty desolate areas with verizon.
I was amazed to get 2 bars where I took my horses in to elk hunt last year.
I have never been so satisfied with a cell company.
